My main passion is photography which I got into rather late (not that there is an actual time frame for discovering new passions) and the other is all things computers/ tech.
I first started out with a Nikon D40 (highly recommended for those starting out in the DSLR world) with a standard 18-55mm kit lens and was amazed and how the images differed from my old Casio point & shoot. I also loved the interaction I could have with the camera, as in shooting in manual where I could control the picture by adjusting the ISO, aperture or shutter speeds etc. I had that camera for about 2 years, but started to want the camera to do more so I started to save for an upgrade.
The next camera I got was a Nikon D300s (carried on using the same lenses I used with the D40) and the functionality was incredible! I loved how I could now shoot in low-light situations without having to be massively concerned with the noise levels that I used to have with the D40. I first noticed how good it was in low-light situations when I was asked by a friend to shoot his baby girls christening. There was no flash allowed in the church (which is not that uncommon and to be fair understandable as it can be pretty off putting) so I put on my new Nikon 50mm prime (which on the D300s equates to about 75mm as it’s a 1.5 frame camera) and shot at f2.8 and 1600 ISO. The images were great and any noise was dealt with in Photoshop.
My next big shoot (I haven’t charged for any shoots yet as they are for friends and I need the practice) was a wedding at Leeds Castle in Kent with a great friend of mine Andy Taranczuk who invited me to come along to get some experience as a second shooter. Andi has been shooting weddings/ stock images and nude art for a while now and I learnt a lot from knowing what images to take, when and the different variations (not just from eye level).
I have my first wedding where I am shooting alone this Saturday for another great friend of mine Matt (Length) in Lewes at The Grange which is a beautiful location in Lewes which amazing gardens, so lets hope the weather holds out! I’m very nervous, but they trust me and everyone there is also a friend of mine, so it should be a relaxed affair.
OK, that was my first ever blog on WordPress.
