Variety are reporting that Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson are in talks to start in a Disney film that will tell of how ‘Mary Poppins’ came to be made called ‘Saving Mr Banks’ which will be directed by John Lee Hancock.
According to Variety:
Disney project is based on the true story of how Walt Disney spent 14 years courting the Australian scribe for the film rights to the character, played by Julie Andrews in the 1964 classic.
Tom Hanks will (should the talks go as planned) be playing Walt Disney with Emma Thompson playing the part of P.L. Travers who wrote the original script for the incredible famous 1964 film Mary Poppins that starred Dick Van Dyke as Bert and Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins. P.L. Travers was reportedly unhappy with the final film by Disney back in 1964, especially regarding the animated scenes. Personally, it is still one of my favourite films to watch as it holds a lot of memories and I actually really liked the animated scenes which were great for their time.
This should be a pretty interesting film to watch as it develops.
