J.K.Rowling’s New Book Is Announced: ‘The Casual Vacancy’

J.K. Rowling, author of the incredibly popular Harry Potter series of books has released details of her highly anticipated new book.

J.K first announced that she was penning a new novel in February, but that was all we knew at that time. Today, along with the opening of her new authors site, pretty much a must-visit site for Harry Potter fans, she also announced the title of the book and what it will be about.

The book is called The Casual Vacancy and will be published worldwide in the English language in hardback, ebook, unabridged audio download and on CD on Thursday 27th September 2012.

Here is a little tease as to the plot of the new novel

When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early forties, the little town of Pagford is left in shock.
Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.
Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils…Pagford is not what it first seems.
And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?

The book, which is approximately 480 pages in total, is described as, “Blackly comic, thought-provoking and constantly surprising”.

  • (Hardback) price £20.00
  • (ebook) price £11.99
  • (audio download) £20.00
  • (CD) price £30.00

Note that the prices above are from the publishers site, but Amazon UK are selling the Hardback book for £10.00 (pre-order) which I have just ordered.

I am unsure if the image at the top of this page is the cover of the book, or just a holding image.
