Google’s latest, and totally awesome Google Doodle, celebrates Gideon Sundback, who was a Swedish-American electrical engineer who invented the ‘zipper’ we all know and use today. He originally started to work on the zip back in 1906 when he was hired to work for the Universal Fastener Company in Hoboken, New Jersey. He eventually perfected the zipper based on interlocking teeth (Hookless No. 2) in 1914 by increasing the number of fastening elements from four per inch to ten or eleven.
