Last Thursday, whilst doing a report on the on-going crisis in Syria, the BBC accidentally mistook the UN logo for the famous UNSC logo used in the Halo games. The mistake was originally spotted by eagle eyed Luke Mair grabbed the original image when re-watching the broadcast via the iPlayer, which has since expired. Footage of the original report have since found their way to YouTube though.
You can see how a researcher may have made the mistake (kind of) when Googling for the UN’s official logo, as the initials for both organisations are the same, but still, pretty stupid.
- UN – UNSC (United Nations Security Council)
- Halo – UNSC (United Nations Space Command)
The BBC responded to Eurogamer (source) by stating,
“BBC News makes every effort to ensure the accuracy of all images broadcast, however very occasionally mistakes do happen. Unfortunately an incorrect logo was used during a segment on last week’s News at One bulletin and we apologise to viewers for the mistake. The image was not broadcast in our later bulletins.”
