Today, redditgifts announced that they have been officially recognised by Guinness for being the worlds largest online Secret Santa.
The effort to be recognised by Guinness was first started by reddit user someguyfromcanada, who said that he was going to make it his personal mission to get reddit and redditgifts (who officially became part of reddit in August 2011) recognised by Guinness. He started by tweeting and emailing Guinness directly at first and then took the cause to reddit to garner further support for the cause. The months later, Guinness said that they would create a new category that would include them.
Last November, redditgifts announced the attempt on their blog which has now been fully recognised by Guinness. The totals that made for the record were due to the awesome people who participated in the 2011 redditgifts which consisted of 30,250 participants in 115 countries, and you can bet that they will beat that record again this year.

I did my first one in June of this year by joining in with the Arbitrary Day 2012 which was a lot of fun, and will definitely be joining in with the next one.
