Embedded Videos Not Playing In Chrome? Here’s How To Fix It

chrome-logo1

If you are having issues with playing embedded YouTube video’s in Chrome whilst looking at certain sites, then as The Joker would say, It’s simple, we kill the cache.

I first noticed this last week but never got around to fixing it as I could just opt to watch the video on the main YouTube site instead. The issue didn’t happen in Firefox or IE.

Then this evening I was reading an article that had about 10 or so embedded videos, so figured it was time to fix it. Here’s how and it should only take you a few seconds to do:

Example of  embedded video not working in Chrome (basically it just stops as soon as you start to play it)

not working

Note: I am using the latest stable build of Chrome

First, select the Options icon located at the top right-hand corner of your browser

Settings button in Chrome

Next, select Settings

settings link in chrome

Scroll down to where you will see the link that says +Show advanced settings and select it

show advanced settings

In this window, you will see a drop-down options window. Choose The beginning of time. Check the four top boxes (these are checked by default and then hit Clear browsing data

clear cookies in chrome

Restart your browser and you should be good to go. All we did here was to delete the cache that Chrome stores over time. Hopefully Google will fix this is the next update.

Works again:

working after cache clear

If you have Google Chrome remember your passwords, then selecting the boxes in the last step won’t delete these. Unless of course you want to delete your password as well, then just check the relating box as well.

Sadly this did not help. This helped: http://www.moonfruit.com/support/entries/21873233-youtube-videos-not-working-on-chrome
That link helped me find the details section of the Plug-ins page. From there, I figured out that I was using the Adobe Shockwave player from Windows rather than Chrome.

Worked! Thanks! Put up for bitcoin address and I’ll send you a tip! Don’t have a bitcoin address? Go to Coinbase.com and get one, it’s super easy. No, I don’t work for them, just love the service, and you fixed my problem, so thank you.

I went to Content settings… -> All cookies and site data… and then searched for youtube and deleted everything associated with it which worked for me. No need to delete everything.
